Security Line Staff Training
All programs listed here are certified by the Minnesota Board of Private Detective and Protective Agent Services. Weapons and other tactical classes are also approved by the Minnesota POST board. These programs have been utilized by hundreds of security officers from more than 30 different agencies both contract and proprietary.
Pre Assignment/ Basic Officer Training-12 hour
Instructs officers in the basic fundamentals and duties of the professional protection officer. Subjects include:
- Concepts and Goals of Private Security
- Legal Issues (powers of arrest, civil liability, Criminal code, etc..)
- Patrol Procedures
- Report Writing
- Interpersonal Communications
- Physical Security Concepts
- Emergency Response
- Legal Limitations of the Use of Force
Pre Assignment- Private Detective- 12 hour
State approved 12 hour pre assignment for those qualifying for the private detective licensure
PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) Defensive Tactics- 8 hours
Comprehensive defensive tactics program for training protective agents and private detectives in areas such as:
- Effects of Survival Stress on Performance
- Reasonable Use of Force Continuum
- De-escalation Techniques
- Defensive Blocks, Counter Strikes, and Escapes
- Subjects Control Techniques
PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) Defensive Tactics Instructor Program- 40 hours
Certifying program for instructors in the PPCT Defensive Tactics System.

CPR/First Aid/AED- 6 hours
Certification is available for adult, child, and infant CPR and AED.
Observational Psychology/ Verbal Control Tactics- hours
This program is designed to enhance an officer’s skills in observing and interpreting subjects’ body language and verbal response patterns during surveillance and field interviews to detect deceit or danger. Also provides officers with verbal techniques to de escalate and control difficult interpersonal confrontations.
Enhanced information gathering and report writing- 6 hours
This is a extension of our Observational Psychology class that adds techniques to improve the students overall scene evaluation and report writing skills.
Students will explore observation as a professional skill and be given direction on improving that skill in their information-gathering phase of effective report writing. Techniques for evaluating deceit, stress and anger in subjects will be explored as well as methods focusing on bettering an officer's recall skills.
Students will participate in classroom scenarios and report writing exercises.
Arrest Procedures- 6 hours
Reviews the officer’s arrest authority and furthers the officer’s knowledge on the concepts of reasonable cause in the arrest process. This program examines the elements of the most common encountered public offenses from the
Advanced Handgun Training- 8 hours(must have initial armed training to attend)
Tactical combat handgun training designed to improve an agent’s close quarter fighting skills. Introduces them to the concepts of reaction shooting from a protection detail situation and includes extensive use of concealed carry techniques.
Threat Assessment-(Private Detective Only)- 6 hours
Basic training on conducting a threat assessment of individuals who may pose a risk for committing an act of targeted violence. Subjects include categories of threats, behavior based risk analysis, managing the case, and strategies for redirecting the threat away from
the target.
Street Drug Recognition- 6 hours
The program is designed to increase the user’s knowledge and recognition of common illicit street drugs as well as commonly misused prescription medications and other abused substances.
Through lecture and a large video and photographic library attendees of this program will become familiar with the origins and manufacturing processes of these substances, their appearance, and various paraphernalia associated with their use. Additionally, attendees will learn about the physical and psychological effects these substances have on users and what to look for when interacting with subjects under the possible influence.
Also included in this program are discussions on the trafficking and distribution patterns of these drugs and the current national and, in some cases, international trends in the use of these substances.
Security Supervisor- 6 hours
The course is designed to prepare new supervisors for their role in the operation and to enhance current supervisor’s understanding of their position.
The program is divided into four parts with each part representing two hours of instruction. The final section will include time to take a multiple choice exam based on the course material and classroom exercises.

Street Gang Recognition- 6 hours
This program is designed to improve the officer’s understanding of the methods and structure of street gang culture and to improve their awareness of the signs of gang activity. Both national and local gang information will be presented through lecture and slide show PowerPoint.
Crisis Intervention
The course provides information and application of crisis theories for
Security personnel when working with diverse populations experiencing emotional or psychological crisis. It also offers proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage.
Intro to Executive Protection- 24 hours
The goal of this course is to familiarize the student with the structure, protocols, and dynamics of providing and/or working on a close protection dignitary or VIP detail. This course will give the student an understanding of the history of close protection, how details are formed including command structure, and how to apply the rings of protection strategies in providing such a detail.
On completion of this course, the student will have the ability to effectively conduct advance surveys, threat assessments, and maximize resources for the protection detail. Additionally, they will be able to work effectively in a moving detail formation and initiate reactive or evacuation skills during emergency situations.
Workplace Violence- Critical Incident Response-3 hours
The first section of the course will examine the current extent of the WPV issue including the rate of occurrences, costs associated with it, the typology, and causes. The program also will examine the types of perpetrators, their motives, and risk factors of both pre-hire and current staff. This section will cover two hours of instruction.
The program will then train the student on how workplace violence incidents can progress from minor disputes to major acts of violence and what the most common warning signs are of situations that are moving down the spectrum towards a serious event.
With this information, the student will better understand how they can recognize situations and assist clients in their efforts to deter workplace conflict and respond to confrontations in the workplace.
The class will end with a discussion of possible response options to the worst-case scenario in which the workplace faces an act of targeted violence. In understanding the mindset that often accompanies these acts the security officer will better understand the response options and how to best direct the client’s employees in reacting to the threats.
Active Shooter Response- 3 hours
The program will begin with a review of the various definitions of the term active shooter and the dynamics associated with this type of incident. This review will include a look at recent events taken from the media and how they relate to this topic. These events will be updated as new events occur.
In conjunction with this review, the class will discuss the importance of the role of private security in identifying and reacting to possible events of any type of workplace violence. This section will also include examples taken from recent headlines to demonstrate the ideas presented and will cover two hours of instruction.
The final section of training will focus on the most likely targets and the inherent problems associated with each for local law enforcement. This will lead to a discussion of how private security can best assist law enforcement and their clients in preventing, reacting to, and recovering from the worst possible case scenario.
